Meet Essie & Brian

Essie and Brian drove all the way from their hometown in Vancouver, Washington to Salem, Oregon for their maternity session with Ashes Photography. She was 36 weeks pregnant and they wanted to take time to capture this special moment with each other  before they soon welcome their daughter into the world.  

Enter Oregon Rain…🌧️

When you live in the Pacific Northwest, rain is a part of life and can often be unpredictable. That particular morning we experienced an “oh shit” moment when on the drive up to Salem it started raining which wasn’t planned in prior forecasts. “We forgot the umbrellas!” (we have clear umbrellas that make for some cool rain pictures and also are helpful for keeping the camera dry) . After a moment of frustration we just embraced the fact that we would carry forward and hope for the best. We caught a lucky break because the rain was intermittent that day and it stayed dry for the entire maternity session.

Being in Salem is also a perfect location not just for local residents but for those traveling from out of the area for their maternity shoot as it’s about halfway between two of Oregon’s largest metro areas – Eugene and Portland. It’s an easy stroll through Deepwood as there’s no hiking involved. It’s literally like a walk in the park!

Tips for Your Maternity Photoshoot

• Breathe and relax! No need to stress, just show up on-time and prepared and your photographer will help guide you through the session.

• Be yourselves. There’s no need to stand straight in one place and “pose” a smile, the best pictures will come from you and your partner naturally smiling and laughing with each other. These genuine emotions come through in the photos. 

• If you want to, bring pregnancy mementos to your maternity session such as your baby’s first pair of shoes, the sonogram, first outfit, a sign with their name on it, etc. You can take some photos with these items and also a few shots of the items themselves.
